A West Bromwich-based steelwork fabricator has received a £35,000 investment boost from the Midlands Engine Investment Fund (MEIF), delivered by BCRS Business Loans.

RJW Metalworks specialises in the design and manufacture of bespoke structural steel. The firm has used the finance to renovate its factory, develop its design capabilities and create three new jobs.

As a result of its business improvements, RJW Metalworks has been certified by the Steel Construction Certification Scheme (SCCS). This is a significant step for the company as it verifies that its load-bearing structural steel meets British and European quality standards, opening up new opportunities for growth.

Richard Edwards, Director at RJW Metalworks, said:

“We are thrilled to have had the quality of our products, such as steel flooring, handrails and mezzanine flooring systems recognised by a national and international quality standard.

“The funding has enabled us to renovate our factory, invest in advancing our design capabilities, employ three additional staff – including an apprentice – and cover upfront costs such as machinery and materials.

“We are committed to providing smart solutions and creating long-lasting relationships with customers and suppliers.

“RJW Metalworks was established in March 2019 by myself and fellow director Wayne Everiss, but our team has over 100 collective years of experience in engineering and fabrication.”

Lynn Wyke, Senior Business Development Manager at BCRS Business Loans, said:

“BCRS Business Loans is delighted to have been able to support the growth of RJW Metalworks. We believe that no viable business in the West Midlands should go unsupported.

“It is excellent to see how well the company has progressed in such a short space of time under Richard and Wayne’s leadership. As a lender of social impact, we are also pleased to see that RJW has created new jobs for local people and look forward to following RJW on its growth journey.”

The WM Small Business Loan Fund, delivered by BCRS Business Loans, offers loans from £25,000 to £150,000 to SMEs based in the West Midlands.

The Midlands Engine Investment Fund project is supported financially by the European Union using funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020 and the European Investment Bank.
